What We Clear

  • Kitchen sinks and garbage disposals
  • Bathroom sinks, tubs, and showers
  • Toilets that drain slowly or back up
  • Laundry drains
  • Floor drains
  • Main sewer lines
  • Outdoor and yard drains

One drain slow is local to that fixture. Several at once means the main line, and that’s a different conversation.

Why Lewisville Drains Behave Differently Across Town

Lewisville spans a wide range of build eras, and the age of your house determines what’s actually going wrong.

Old Town and the oldest streets have cast iron drain lines. Cast iron corrodes into a rough, ridged interior surface, and waste that would slide through smooth PVC catches on it. Each year a little more collects and the drain runs a little slower, until something ordinary blocks it completely. Clearing it restores flow without removing the scale, which is why these lines need attention more often.

The 1970s and 80s growth ring is mixed. Older cast iron indoors, early PVC outside in many cases. Worth scoping rather than assuming when a drain keeps returning.

Vista Ridge, Indian Oaks, and Castle Hills are mostly PVC. Smooth interior, no scaling, no root intrusion at joints. When these homes clog it’s normally what went down the drain, or a belly where the line has settled.

Roots matter in the older areas. Mature trees and clay soil that shifts through wet and dry cycles are a combination that opens joints. A drain that backs up, clears, and returns three months later usually has roots rather than a clog.

Snake, Jet, or Scope?

Cabling or snaking cuts through and pulls out the blockage. Right for most single-fixture clogs.

Hydro jetting scours the pipe’s full interior with high-pressure water. Right when grease has coated the line, when roots are involved, or when clearing keeps being temporary. A snake punches a hole through a root mass; jetting removes it.

One honest note. On badly deteriorated cast iron or old clay, high-pressure jetting can damage pipe that’s already fragile. In Old Town we scope first rather than reaching straight for the jetter. In a newer PVC line that isn’t a concern.

Camera inspection when a drain keeps returning, when several are slow together, or before anyone suggests replacement.

We’ll tell you which you need, including when the cheapest option is the right one.

Keeping It From Coming Back

Most of what we pull out of Lewisville drains is preventable.

Grease is the main culprit. It goes down warm and liquid, cools, and coats the pipe wall. The opening narrows over months until something small blocks it entirely. Running hot water after it just moves the problem further along.

Hair and soap in showers. They bind together into a mass that catches everything after it. A cheap drain screen prevents most of it.

“Flushable” wipes aren’t. They don’t break down like toilet paper, they snag on any irregularity, and they’re one of the most common main-line blockages we clear.

Enzyme treatments over caustic drain cleaner. Enzyme products work slowly on organic buildup without harming the pipe. Caustic cleaners generate heat and sit against the pipe wall when they can’t clear the blockage — particularly bad news for old cast iron in Old Town.

If your main line has backed up before, schedule it. A planned cleaning costs less than an emergency callout, and you pick the timing. That’s part of our maintenance plans.

Lewisville Drain Cleaning FAQs

Why do older Lewisville homes clog more often?

Cast iron. As it corrodes it develops a rough, scaled interior that catches waste instead of letting it pass. The pipe may still be structurally fine while clogging twice as often as it did twenty years ago. Clearing it restores flow but doesn’t remove the scale, which is why the interval between backups keeps shortening.

Fixtures backing up together share a branch line or the main, so the blockage is downstream of both rather than in either one. It’s a more serious signal than a single slow drain and worth prompt attention — particularly if waste is coming up into the tub.

For maintenance on a line with a grease or organic buildup history, yes. They work slowly and won’t damage pipe. They won’t clear an existing blockage, and they’re no substitute for jetting a line that’s already coated. Think of them as prevention rather than a fix.

A drain screen, and clearing it regularly. It’s the cheapest plumbing prevention there is. Hair binds with soap residue into a mass that catches everything behind it, and once it’s down past the trap it needs a tool to remove.

If you’ve had no backups, no. If you’ve had two or more in a year, or your line has a known root or grease history, a planned annual cleaning costs far less than emergency callouts and you choose the timing.

Grease and food waste. Kitchen lines carry the most of both, and a disposal grinds rather than dissolves — the pieces still have to travel the length of the line. Cold water while it runs and for a few seconds after helps; putting grease in the bin rather than the sink helps more.
